I just have to comment on today - it's so tremendously lovely out! If you can find a shady spot, it's so worth it - there's a beautiful breeze and clear skies. So beautiful only God could have painted it this way. We had a lovely morning together, the wild man and I. We met some other moms at a park here in town and all the kids played themselves silly! Our town offers free lunches to all the kiddos at the local parks, so we picked up our lunch boxes from the wonderful serving ladies and found ourselves a little patch of shade to eat in. Wild man was so anxious for play he only ate his apple and drank his milk :) I had his broccoli and dip and his yogurt and we shared his grilled cheese with an teen boy who is clearly growing like a weed! The food was great, the company even better. It's so nice to be able to sit with other moms who have a Christian nature and just be able to chat freely, without the judgmental looks one tends to get when expressing religious standing. We talked books and families and jobs and other normal stuff, all with a bent toward God. Very sweet and soul refreshing.
I've been reading so much lately. My crochet and knitting has suffered for it! I go through these phases, though. I'll read until I feel the need to get back into the yarn work. I just finished an incredible book by Anne Perry, The Sheen on the Silk. So well written and researched - I couldn't put it down! And it's over 500 pgs! It only took me four days to finish, what with all the running around the wild man has me doing :) If you love court, international or religious intrigue, murder, greed, betrayal, love, deception and vivid descriptions of a dying empire, you will adore this novel. Set in the 1200's, it's an intense portrayal of the after effects of the fourth crusade's invasion of Constantinople and the Roman empire's increasing reach into the old empire of Byzantium. Kings, popes, doges, royalty, commoners, courtesans and eunuchs are featured, interacting with each other in intricate relationships. Rich colors and lush scenes, combined with complex and enjoyable characters, this novel was a true literary joy. I hope you take the time to read it and savor the complexity!
Watched the finale of Saving Grace last night and was fairly disappointed. They can never get series' completions right, can they! I knew she was going to die I just didn't know how they were going to get there. And I was sincerely hoping she would have earned her own set of wings and become a Last Chance angel along with Earl. She could certainly relate to the people she'd minister to! Oh, well. I'll have to live with the disappointment of an excellent show's demise. I hope to be seeing Holly Hunter in another kick butt series very soon - she's a great actress!
